Uzbekistan’s annual inflation eases to 6.2% in August 2026

Uzbekistan’s consumer prices rose 0.2% in August 2026, as higher food and transport prices contributed to the monthly increase, while annual inflation stood at 6.2%, down from 8.8% a year earlier.

Consumer prices in Uzbekistan increased by 0.2% in August 2026, while annual inflation stood at 6.2%, according to the National Statistics Committee. Prices have risen by 3.4% since the beginning of the year.

The monthly composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 100.2% in August, compared with 100.4% in the same month of 2025. The annual CPI rate declined from 8.8% in August 2025 to 6.2% in August 2026.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the largest monthly increase among the main CPI sections, with prices rising by 0.4%. Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 0.6%, while restaurant and accommodation services rose by 0.3%.

Among individual food products, rice and broken rice prices increased by 2.2% during the month, buckwheat by 1.1%, eggs by 0.8%, mutton by 0.7%, boneless beef by 0.7%, and chicken parts by 0.7%. At the same time, sugar prices fell by 0.6%, milk by 0.3% and cottonseed oil by 0.4%.

Seasonal factors affected fruit and vegetable prices in August. Grapes became 10.9% cheaper, bell peppers fell by 9.2%, apples by 7.2%, pears by 6.0%, eggplants by 5.5%, cabbage by 4.9% and potatoes by 3.3%. Meanwhile, carrot prices rose by 9.2%, watermelons by 7.5%, onions by 6.2% and citrus fruits by 1.6%.

Transport prices increased by 0.4% during the month. Gasoline prices rose by an average of 1.9%, including a 1.1% increase for AI-92, 4.9% for AI-95 and 6.7% for AI-98 and AI-100. Propane prices increased by 5.8%, while methane prices remained unchanged from July.

The National Statistics Committee said food and non-alcoholic beverages made the largest contribution to the monthly increase in the composite CPI at 0.16 percentage points, followed by transport at 0.04 percentage points. Lower prices in healthcare services and products reduced the index by 0.01 percentage points, while other sections contributed a combined 0.05 percentage points. The total impact was 0.24 percentage points.

From January through August 2026, the largest contribution to consumer price growth came from housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport. Together, these sections accounted for 2.33 percentage points, or 68.3% of the total impact on the CPI.

By the main groups of goods and services, food prices increased by 0.4% in August, non-food prices by 0.2% and services by 0.1%. Since the beginning of 2026, the corresponding increases stood at 1.9%, 4.3% and 4.7%, while annual growth reached 6.2%, 5.9% and 6.4%, respectively. No sharp deviations from the national average were recorded across regions. Annual CPI growth ranged from 5.2% in Syrdarya Region to 6.8% in Tashkent City, while monthly CPI readings stood between 100.2% and 100.3% across the country.

The National Statistics Committee bases the monthly CPI calculation on 517 goods and services, including 419 goods and 98 services. Price collection covered more than 2mn price quotations in August and was conducted from August 1 to 25 using retail observations, administrative transaction data, information from service providers and retailers, web scraping and telephone surveys.

Earlier, Uzbekistan recorded monthly deflation of 0.1% in July 2026 as food prices fell by an average of 0.9%, offsetting increases of 0.3% in non-food goods and 0.5% in paid services. Annual inflation stood at 6.4%, down from 8.9% in July 2025.
