Uzbekistan has set a goal to rank among the world’s top 50 countries in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the target on October 21 during a videoconference dedicated to the development of AI technologies.
“We aim to be among the top 50 countries in artificial intelligence by 2030. Therefore, based on advanced foreign experience, we will establish an ‘Artificial Intelligence Alliance,’” the president stated.
The new Artificial Intelligence Alliance will bring together leading local and international companies, experts, state-owned enterprises, banks, and universities.
Its primary mission will be to strengthen cooperation with global research centers and accelerators, promote Uzbekistan’s AI initiatives internationally, and ensure local participation in major exhibitions, forums, and conferences.
To foster research and talent development, an AI cluster will be established at New Uzbekistan University under the principle of “network–university–partner.” Beginning next academic year, the university will also introduce a joint educational program in artificial intelligence in partnership with top 300 global universities.
According to the presidential press service, Uzbekistan has made notable progress in the field. Over the past year, the country has advanced 17 places in the global AI readiness index, now ranking 70th worldwide and 1st in Central Asia.
Foreign experts estimate that Uzbekistan’s AI-based services could reach $10bn in value, highlighting the growing potential of the sector as the country continues to invest in digital transformation and innovation.
