President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the comprehensive development of Tashkent, with a particular focus on strengthening the city’s industrial and transport infrastructure.
During the presentation, officials outlined plans for the development of the “New Generation” special industrial zone, established on a 774-hectare site. Currently, 28 projects are underway on 268 hectares, with a total value of $800mn. Investors have also been identified for another 30 projects across 300 hectares, representing an additional $400mn in investments.
The president emphasized the importance of creating jobs and fostering the production of high-value-added and technologically advanced products through the continued expansion of the industrial zone.
One of the key projects presented was the construction of a multimodal logistics terminal in partnership with Dubai-based DP World, with an investment of $288mn. Once completed, the terminal is expected to significantly expand Tashkent’s logistics capacity, improving export and import operations and strengthening the city’s position as a regional trade hub.
The meeting also addressed ongoing efforts to improve road and transport infrastructure in the capital. Building on the success of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system implemented on Shota Rustaveli Street, authorities plan to extend similar infrastructure improvements to 10 more streets across the city.
Additional measures to enhance road safety, regulate traffic, and improve the city’s appearance under a unified design code were also discussed.
To support these initiatives, UZS 1 trillion ($82mn) will be allocated from the local budget next year for neighborhood improvement, the development of gastronomic streets, and the renovation of irrigation systems.
President Mirziyoyev underlined that all urban development efforts should aim to create a comfortable and modern living environment, stimulate economic activity, and encourage entrepreneurial growth in the capital.
The presentation also covered major infrastructure initiatives in other regions. In particular, plans were reviewed to expand Bukhara’s capacity to host and serve a growing number of tourists, reinforcing the city’s role as a key cultural and economic destination in Uzbekistan.
