President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 7, reviewed the implementation of reforms in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region, assessing regional development efforts and addressing ongoing challenges.

The meeting followed a presidential decree issued on December 31, 2024, aimed at boosting Jizzakh’s socio-economic growth. The decree outlines key targets, including attracting $2bn in investments, increasing exports to $285mn, and creating 168,000 jobs by 2025.
In the first half of 2025, Jizzakh has launched 200 projects across industry, agriculture, and services, bringing in $662mn in investments. However, President Mirziyoyev noted that several districts—Do'stlik, Zafarabad, Pakhtakor, and Mirzachul—are falling behind. He stressed the importance of prioritizing these areas for new projects and job creation.
The region has seen a surge in tourism following the opening of large tourism complexes worth $250mn, resulting in a twofold increase in tourist arrivals over the past year. With existing infrastructure in place, the president emphasized the potential for further tourism growth.

Agriculture remains another underused opportunity. Despite Jizzakh having 1.3mn hectares of farmland, only 40 percent is currently cultivated. The president pointed out that better land use could significantly increase both food and livestock feed production.
To accelerate progress, a “Reforms Headquarters” was set up in the region, bringing together government officials, industry experts, and entrepreneurs. During the meeting, the headquarters presented a portfolio of 200 new projects valued at $520 million. These are expected to generate 12,000 new jobs, UZS 120bn ($9.6mn) in additional budget revenues, and $100 million in export potential.
President Mirziyoyev reviewed the projects in detail, stressing the need to align them with economic demand and market needs. He urged regional governors and the Reforms Headquarters to coordinate closely in order to achieve major gains across the industry, agriculture, tourism, and service sectors.
