Uzbekistan has signed a contract with a Kazakh company to supply uranium to France for a one-year period. Under the agreement, Kazakhstan’s TOO Logistic Centre will transport 500 containers of uranium concentrate to France through Russia’s St. Petersburg port.

The Uzbek state enterprise Navoiyuran will pay €9mn for the transportation, which will deliver the uranium to the commune of Malvezie in southern France. The contract, initially valued at €11mn, was later reduced. The shipment includes provisions for the return of empty containers to Marseille. Transportation must be completed within 15 days from the departure date at St. Petersburg.
Deliveries will continue until the end of the first quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, Navoiyuran is seeking a contractor to transport uranium to processing plants in the United States and Canada, specifically Converdin Enterprise and Cameco Corporation.
The agreement follows President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to France from March 11-13. During the visit, Uzbekistan and France signed a joint declaration on strategic cooperation, along with agreements in finance, investment, education, culture, and other sectors. A cooperation program outlining €6.5bn worth of joint investment and innovation projects was also adopted.
As part of the visit, a roundtable discussion was held in Paris, bringing together government officials and representatives from about 100 leading companies to explore opportunities for further collaboration.
