TAQA Water Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the New Tashkent City Directorate to explore the development of a 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline and a water treatment plant in New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan.

This marks TAQA Water Solutions’ second large-scale water infrastructure project in Uzbekistan, aiming to provide reliable clean water for approximately 2mn residents. Under the agreement, TAQA Water Solutions has been granted exclusivity to conduct technical and financial assessments to ensure the project's viability and develop a sustainable, bankable solution.
The agreement was signed by Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, and Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate. The project will leverage TAQA’s extensive expertise in large-scale infrastructure development, reinforcing its role as a key provider of sustainable water solutions globally.
Once completed, the project will source drinking water from the Charvak Mountain Reservoir, supported by advanced treatment technologies to meet international standards. The 65-kilometer pipeline will have a daily capacity of over 500,000 cubic meters and generate up to 20 megawatts of hydropower, ensuring a steady supply of clean water to support the city’s growing needs.
Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi highlighted that the partnership aligns with the UAE’s public-private partnership ambitions, emphasizing TAQA’s commitment to water security and sustainable resource management in Uzbekistan. Maksud Abbaskhanov expressed confidence in TAQA’s expertise, noting that the project will establish a reliable and sustainable water supply system for New Tashkent City.
Valued at AED 2bn ($545mn), the project is a significant investment in New Tashkent City’s future, securing long-term water supply and supporting economic growth. It also strengthens bilateral ties between the UAE and Uzbekistan, underscoring both nations' commitment to sustainable development.
