Work has begun on a project to procure 200 electric buses and corresponding charging stations for the capital as part of Uzbekistan's environmental and green economy initiatives under the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy. The initiative aligns with the country's efforts to combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality.

Following a competitive selection process among three Chinese companies—BYD Auto Industry, Yutong Bus, and Zhongtong Bus Holding — Yutong Bus emerged as the winner. The company was selected for offering solutions that fully met project requirements.
The new electric buses will be deployed to enhance existing routes in Tashkent and support the introduction of new services. The initiative is expected to modernize public transportation and promote sustainable mobility in the city.
During a visit to Tashkent, Yutong Bus executives met with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, to discuss strengthening cooperation and improving the quality of public transport services.
On February 12, Minister Makhkamov held talks with Yutong Bus Vice President Xu Peng regarding the fleet renewal process and discussed plans to acquire an additional 1,000 buses for Tashkent.
Uzbekistan has been steadily expanding its public transport infrastructure. In July 2024, Makhkamov announced plans to procure 1,000 buses for regional centers and 200 BYD electric buses for the capital.
Additionally, in January 2025, the president ordered the delivery of another 1,000 buses to Tashkent.
