The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has reached an agreement to establish a unified air defense system, aiming to enhance security and strengthen cooperation among its member states.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Moscow, with representatives from all member nations, including Uzbekistan, signing the agreement.
The initiative outlines the phased development and funding of the air defense system, with the goal of reinforcing the collective defense capabilities of the CIS countries.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin chaired the meeting, which was attended by leaders from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
This unified air defense system is designed to protect the region from external air threats and foster greater military defense cooperation among the CIS nations. The agreement represents a key milestone in the region's joint defense efforts.
The project is expected to begin implementation in 2025, focusing on securing financial resources for its development and ensuring enhanced air defense capabilities for all participating countries.
