The Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has approved the dismissal of Mamarizo Nurmuratov as Chairman of the Central Bank, following a proposal from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to the presidential press service.
Mamarizo Nurmuratov has held the position of Central Bank Chairman since June 2017. His extensive career spans decades of service in various financial and administrative roles. Born in 1960 in the Samarkand region, Nurmuratov graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy and the Leningrad Institute of Economics and Finance in 1982.
Between 1985 and 1988, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Moscow Finance Institute, earning a degree as a candidate of economic sciences. Notably, he served as Uzbekistan's Minister of Finance from 2000 to 2004, and later as the governor of the Samarkand region from 2004 to 2006.
From 2006 to 2017, Nurmuratov was an advisor to the Chairman of the Central Bank. His leadership at the Central Bank was renewed in May 2022 for another term, reflecting his long-standing influence in the country's financial sector.
According to the Presidential Press Secretary, the president of Uzbekistan has proposed Timur Ishmetov, First Deputy Adviser on Economic Development, Investment, and Foreign Trade Policy, as the new Chairman of the Central Bank to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
The Chairman of the Central Bank plays a pivotal role in overseeing the institution’s operations, including its executive apparatus, the Banking Consumer Rights Protection Service, the Legal Department, and the Credit Committee.
