Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed an agreement enabling citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for up to 30 days. This announcement was made by Saidov on his official Telegram channel.
The agreement is expected to strengthen bilateral relations by facilitating increased trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
In October 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan hinted at the possibility of a visa-free regime between the two nations. During a briefing, Chinese Ambassador Yu Xiun expressed the Chinese government’s willingness to implement such measures. He highlighted the need for further expert-level discussions and initial procedural simplifications before fully adopting a visa-free framework.
Uzbekistan has allowed a 10-day visa-free stay for Chinese citizens since March 2021. In response, China has progressively expanded its visa-free policies, recently including nine additional countries in its visa-free entry program. These include Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and South Korea. This program is valid until December 31, 2025, allowing up to 15 days of visa-free entry for eligible citizens.
China also maintains other visa-free initiatives, such as a transit program permitting citizens from 54 countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, to stay in China for up to 144 hours without a visa under specific conditions.
