In a ruling by the Moscow City Court, a dual citizen of Russia and Tajikistan was sentenced to 13 years and six months in a maximum-security penal colony for attempting to pass classified information to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States. The sentence was announced following the verdict on high treason charges, according to reports from TASS, referencing the Public Relations Center (PRC) of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
Firuz Temirboevich Dadoboev, an IT specialist employed at a commercial firm in Moscow, was found guilty of attempting to share sensitive state information with U.S. intelligence services. The PRC report detailed that Dadoboev had initiated contact with CIA representatives with the intent to transfer materials deemed state secrets.
The investigation, conducted by the FSB (Federal Security Service) for Moscow and the Moscow Region, revealed that Dadoboev was detained in October 2022 while attempting to hand over classified information. Following his arrest, Dadoboev admitted his actions and expressed remorse, as noted by the FSB.
In addition to his prison sentence, Dadoboev was ordered to pay a fine of RUB 300,000 ($3,081). Fergana, a Central Asian news outlet, highlighted that Dadoboev, born in 1977, is originally from Tajikistan and held dual citizenship.
The case, which falls under Article 275 of the Russian Federation’s Criminal Code concerning high treason, underscores ongoing tensions between Russian authorities and foreign intelligence activities.
