The Dushanbe Department of Internal Affairs has declared a strict ban on playing certain violent video games, including Counter Strike and Grand Theft Auto (GTA), in Tajikistan. This decision is part of a broader effort to combat youth crime and protect the country's younger generation from negative influences associated with violent gaming.
According to the analysis conducted by law enforcement agencies, there has been a worrying trend of addiction to these games among young people and teenagers, often leading to criminal behavior influenced by the violent content. The Ministry of Culture of Tajikistan has concluded that these games contain elements of brutality, murder, and robbery, which are deemed harmful to impressionable players.
While the specific list of other banned games has not been disclosed, officials are urging parents to supervise their children and restrict access to any gaming content that promotes violence.
To enforce this ban, the authorities plan to conduct regular raids and inspections at internet cafes across the capital. This initiative follows a previous decision made in June 2017 by Dushanbe's mayor, Rustam Emomali, which prohibited minors from visiting entertainment centers and internet cafes during nighttime hours. The goal of these measures is to safeguard teenagers and prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
As the ban takes effect, the government is calling on citizens to be vigilant in monitoring their children's gaming habits and to promote safer, more constructive leisure activities.
