On September 27, the Governments of Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning a visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports. The signing took place in New York during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The MoU was signed by Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud. This agreement aims to facilitate travel for diplomatic officials between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia, enhancing the ease of diplomatic interactions.
Alongside the signing of the MoU, the two foreign ministers discussed a range of important issues. Their talks encompassed regional security, economic cooperation, and global challenges, including water management and climate change. These discussions are indicative of the ongoing efforts to fortify bilateral relations on both regional and international platforms.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 11, 1992, and diplomatic relations were established shortly thereafter on February 22, 1992. The Tajik Embassy in Riyadh commenced operations in September 2008, while the Saudi Embassy in Dushanbe was established in 2010.
