An exhibition dedicated to Afghan businesses is set to take place in Kazakhstan's Almaty, coinciding with the Kazakhstan-Afghanistan Business Forum. Initially planned for late August, the event has been rescheduled to October 22, as announced by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The forum, organized by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Commerce, aims to facilitate connections among more than 250 Afghan entrepreneurs from diverse sectors of the economy. This initiative continues the tradition of Kazakh-Afghan business forums, with previous events held in Astana in August 2023 and Afghanistan in April 2024.
Kazakhstan lifted the Taliban from its list of banned organizations in December 2023, aligning with UN Security Council resolutions. This decision is part of Kazakhstan's broader strategy to strengthen economic and trade relationships with Afghanistan, which has emerged as a vital partner for Central Asia since the Taliban's ascent to power in 2021.
Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan is anticipated to grow significantly, with expectations of reaching $3bn through active participation in business forums and the establishment of agricultural supply agreements.
