Kazakhstan's inflation moderated to 8.4% y/y in August, down from 8.6% in July, according to a report from the Bureau of National Statistics. The report highlighted varying inflationary pressures across different sectors. Paid services witnessed a significant increase of 13.6% over the year. Non-food products saw a 7.7% rise, while the food sector experienced a 5.5% increase.
August saw notable price adjustments in several areas. Utility rates, along with specific goods and services, experienced upward trends. Domestically produced new passenger cars increased by 28.6%, with general product prices rising by 11.6%. Other significant increases included clothing and footwear at 11%, furniture and household items at 10.6%, personal goods at 7.8%, and building materials at 5.9%. Additionally, coal prices increased by 10.3%, firewood by 10.1%, and liquefied gas in cylinders by 9.1%.
The food sector displayed mixed price movements. Notable increases included oranges at 4.2%, sunflower oil at 2.2%, cabbage at 2.2%, and onions at 1.9%. Conversely, some food items saw price decreases, such as grapes at 10%, sweet peppers at 8.6%, tomatoes at 7.8%, cucumbers at 6.1%, buckwheat at 3.6%, and beets at 3.2%.
Regionally, the Abai Region experienced the highest increase in food prices at 0.6%. Non-food products saw a 1.7% rise in the Turkistan Region, while paid services in Almaty increased by 2.2%.
