Judo competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics have seen Uzbekistan's Alisher Yusupov secure a bronze medal in the +100 kg weight category. Yusupov faced Tatsuru Saito from Japan on August 2, in the bronze medal match and emerged victorious, continuing Uzbekistan's successful run in the judo events.
He advanced past the preliminary stages and faced Saito in the crucial bout. The win against Saito capped off a strong performance at the Olympics for Yusupov and added to the tally of Uzbekistan's medals, bringing the total count to 1 gold and 2 bronze.
Georgian judoka Guram Tushishvili, who Yusupov might have faced in an earlier round, was disqualified after his quarter-final loss. This allowed Yusupov to move directly to the bronze medal match without additional bouts.
Yusupov's achievement at the Paris Olympics is a continuation of his strong track record in judo. He previously won a bronze medal in the +100 kg category at the Grand Slam judo tournament in Osaka in 2019. Additionally, he secured another bronze medal at the 2023 World Judo Championship held in the UAE. Born on December 2, 1998, Yusupov is currently ranked 9th in the world in his weight category.
