Japanese experts will evaluate 13 hydraulic structures in four regions of Kazakhstan in preparation for the 2025 flood season. The initiative, conducted by specialists from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to evaluate and strengthen the resilience of these structures.
The Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced that visual inspections have already been conducted in the Kostanai, Akmola, Aktobe, and Abai regions. These inspections focused on infrastructure that has previously endured considerable pressure during flood events.
At a meeting on July 22, Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, expressed appreciation for the Japanese assistance.
The discussions also included plans to automate and digitalize hydraulic infrastructure to improve flood control measures. This includes the installation of sensors to monitor water levels and discharge volumes, enhancing real-time response capabilities during floods.
