Uzbekistan experienced a seasonal deflation rate of 0.2% in June, according to the Statistics Agency. Despite this monthly decline, the annual inflation rate held steady at 10.6%.
The seasonal deflation, although lower than last year, exceeded levels observed in 2020-2021. Since the start of the year, consumer prices have risen by 5.2%, driven by a sharp acceleration in May.
Food prices fell by 1.8% in June and have decreased by 1.7% since the beginning of the year. The annual growth rate of food prices was the lowest in recent years, amounting to only 3.5%, which is three times less than last year.
Specifically, vegetable prices dropped by almost 14%, fruits by 4.8%, and eggs by 1.1% in June. Prices for dairy and fat and oil products also saw slight decreases. Conversely, the prices of beverages increased by 1%, and meat and fish by 0.6%.
Over the past year, vegetable prices decreased by 22.5%, with onions becoming cheaper by more than half and cabbage by 45%. However, fruit prices saw an average increase of 2%, with pomegranates rising in price by 2.4 times, grapes by 87%, and apples by a third.
Inflation in the manufactured goods segment continues to accelerate, with prices rising by 0.8% per month and 7.9% on an annual basis. Prices for clothing, shoes, and furniture increased slightly by 0.2% monthly and between 4.9% and 5.8% annually.
The growth in prices for household appliances also accelerated slightly, with a 0.5% increase per month and 6.5% annually. In June, mobile phones became 0.1% more expensive, while computers decreased in price by the same amount. Medicines saw a price hike, increasing by 1.5% monthly and 20.8% annually.
Gasoline prices dropped by 1.4% in June, while propane fell by 1.9%. Over the year, however, gasoline prices rose by 23.4%, and propane by 12.9%. Methane prices showed the most substantial increase, rising by 12% monthly and 36.8% annually.
In the services sector, price growth returned to the trend with a monthly increase of 0.9%. Over the year, services prices rose by 27.9%, primarily due to the May increase in energy tariffs. Air travel prices increased by 0.2% monthly and 10.7% annually, while rail travel saw a 1.8% monthly increase and a substantial 42.9% annual rise.
Prices in public catering grew by 0.6% monthly, with an annual decrease of 12%. Hotel services prices increased by 2.6% monthly and 18% annually.
Rail transport costs increased by 1.8%, with fares on mainline trains set to rise by 25% starting July 1.
The cost of preschool and primary education services rose significantly by 15.4%, driven primarily by a 20.0% increase in public kindergarten fees.
