StrategEast, in collaboration with Google, has embarked on an ambitious venture titled the Build with AI for Sustainable Growth project on, aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle sustainability challenges across Central Asia and the Caucasus and it aunched during the CAMCA Regional Forum in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on June 12.
The initiative will unfold through a series of hackathons and workshops facilitated by Google and StrategEast experts. These sessions will leverage Google's advanced AI tools, including the Gemini large language model, to foster the development of prototypes and products that address pressing sustainability issues. Technical professionals from diverse backgrounds will participate, supported by governments across the region keen to enhance their environmental resilience and economic sustainability.
Olga Skorokhodova, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for the Caucasus and Central Asia at Google, expressed optimism about the program's potential impact. She pointed out Google's commitment to leveraging AI technologies for economic and social development, emphasizing the corporation's proactive role in addressing regional challenges.
"We hope that the Build with AI for Sustainable Growth program will contribute significantly to achieving this important goal," Skorokhodova affirmed.
Moreover, Google's collaboration with StrategEast, alongside governmental support from entities such as the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Digital Development of Uzbekistan, underscores a broader commitment to nurturing digital skills and innovation. The successful IT Hub project, implemented in collaboration with USAID, has already trained over 1500 students from leading universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in AI, machine learning, and cloud technologies between 2023 and 2024.
Looking ahead, the Build with AI for Sustainable Growth project's culmination is anticipated with a hackathon in Astana scheduled for fall 2024. This event will showcase the innovative solutions developed by top developer teams, highlighting the potential of AI to drive sustainable development and resilience across Central Asia and the Caucasus.
