Kazakh athletes had actively participated in 30 sporting events hosted by Uzbekistan in 2023, with a further 19 events already underway since the onset of this year.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering cooperation in the realm of sports. The Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Yermek Marzhikpayev, engaged in fruitful discussions with his Uzbek counterpart, Adkham Ikramov, during the Meeting of Heads of Ministries and Departments Responsible for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
The bilateral negotiations between the two ministers highlighted the shared vision of enhancing collaboration in various facets of sports, including athlete training and the advancement of national sports. Of particular focus was the imminent 5th World Nomad Games, for which both nations are gearing up to showcase their prowess on the international stage.
The national team of Uzbekistan has been actively engaged in various international sporting competitions held in Kazakhstan.
Minister Marzhikpayev extended a cordial invitation to his Uzbek counterpart to conduct joint training camps at the Republican Olympic Training Base situated in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. Emphasizing the state-of-the-art facilities available, Marzhikpayev highlighted the expansive nature of the base, capable of accommodating approximately 2,300 athletes concurrently across 23 Olympic sports.
Furthermore, Minister Marzhikpayev shed light on the flourishing landscape of national sports within Kazakhstan. With over a thousand competitions held annually across various levels, and the operationalization of the republican "Center for National and Equestrian Sports," Kazakhstan stands as a beacon of promoting indigenous sporting traditions alongside international standards.
As a gesture of goodwill and camaraderie, Minister Marzhikpayev extended an invitation to Minister Ikramov to partake in the opening ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games, as well as the forthcoming Meeting of the Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Organization of Turkic States scheduled for September 9.
