The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Pakistan has formally appealed to the Taliban officials, requesting the extradition of terrorists belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban group. This request follows a terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that resulted in the deaths of five Chinese nationals. The appeal was reported by Hasht-e Subh Daily, citing information from Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi.
Pakistani authorities have gathered substantial evidence linking the Tehrik-e-Taliban to the attack, which has heightened tensions in the region. The involvement of the group in this deadly incident was confirmed by Minister Naqvi, who emphasized the necessity of addressing this threat to maintain regional stability and bilateral relations.
"We request the Taliban to arrest the leaders of the Tehreek-e-Taliban, including its leader Nuruli Mahsud, and hand them over to Pakistan in order to maintain friendly relations between the two countries," stated Interior Minister Naqvi.
Pakistan has been proactive in addressing this issue with the Taliban, urging them to take decisive action against the Tehrik-e-Taliban. Despite these efforts, the Taliban has not yet responded positively to Pakistan's requests. The lack of a constructive response has increased concerns in Islamabad about the security situation along the border.
The situation in the border areas has become increasingly perilous, with Pakistani officials reporting heightened threats from radical groups. These groups are exploiting the Taliban’s apparent inability to effectively control the border, posing significant security risks to Pakistan.
In Afghanistan, some local sources indicate that the Taliban may have detained members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban as claimed by Pakistan. Despite this, the Taliban’s overall stance on extradition remains unclear. Kabul has reiterated its condemnation of the terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which killed five Chinese citizens, signaling a shared concern over terrorism but not necessarily aligning with Pakistan’s extradition demands.
The terrorist attack has also impacted Pakistan’s relations with China. The death of Chinese nationals has prompted Pakistan to take swift action in pursuing the perpetrators and ensuring the safety of foreign nationals within its borders.
