President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia agreed to establish joint Intergovernmental Commission, as it was informed in their address to the media following their extensive negotiations on May 17.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the deep-rooted connections between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, underlined by shared religious beliefs, similar customs, and common values. He highlighted Malaysia's dynamic development, noting its influence not only in Southeast Asia but globally.
"Malaysia is a state that demonstrates a dynamic pace of development not only in Southeast Asia but throughout the world, our reliable, time-tested partner. It is symbolic that in both countries the holiday of national independence is celebrated on the same day – August 31," stated the President of Uzbekistan.
The leaders underscored the alignment between Uzbekistan’s "Uzbekistan - 2030" strategic development program and Malaysia’s "Malaysia Madani" modernization initiatives, reflecting similar goals and objectives. They hailed Prime Minister Ibrahim's visit as a historic event that opens a new chapter in bilateral relations.
During the negotiations, the leaders identified key areas and new horizons for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. They agreed to intensify political dialogue and high-level contacts. A mutual aspiration was expressed to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership in the near future.
Key priorities included increasing trade turnover and the number of joint ventures. Both parties committed to systematic efforts to multiply these indicators soon.
Specific plans were outlined for cooperation across various sectors, including energy, petrochemicals, mining, electrical industries, agriculture, food industry, pharmaceuticals, financial sector, IT, and more. Confidence was expressed that the upcoming business forum in Samarkand, featuring leading companies from both nations and a substantial package of signed investment agreements, would inject new vigor into the partnership.
Measures to expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges were discussed, including mutual cultural weeks, youth, education and sports forums, and various exhibitions.
President Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Ibrahim agreed that the summit's outcomes would strengthen Uzbek-Malaysian relations, infusing the multifaceted partnership with new practical content. A joint “road map” was agreed upon to ensure the timely and high-quality implementation of all agreements reached during the negotiations.
