A pre-trial investigation has been launched in Kazakhstan in connection with an attempt to smuggle drugs across the country’s border, reports the Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan on April 30.
Authorities discovered a box containing the narcotic substance "hashish," weighing 479.94 grams, at the international mail control area in Astana. The illicit substance had been shipped from Sweden via Kazpost, in a joint effort between Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan and the security department of the postal service.
The suspect involved in this case was promptly apprehended and placed in temporary detention, following the procedures set forth in Article 128 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Kazakhstan.
Details pertaining to the ongoing investigation, including any additional findings, are currently classified and not available for public disclosure under Article 201 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
In accordance with the constitutional principles of presumption of innocence, the individual remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, as stipulated in Article 77 of the Constitution of Kazakhstan and Article 19 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Prior to this incident, the Financial Monitoring Agency and Kazpost had entered into a memorandum of cooperation aimed at enhancing measures to combat financial crimes and bolstering the security of financial transactions within the country, including those involving postal items.
