Uzbekistan has initiated a program aimed at allocating 60,000 hectares of land to young entrepreneurs to bolster the agricultural sector. The decision, reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice, stems from a presidential decree issued on April 5.
Under the decree, land from the reserves of district khokimiyats (city administrations) will be made available through online electronic auctions. Eligible participants, including those listed in the "makhalla seven," will have the opportunity to rent agricultural land for a period of up to 10 years. The rent can be paid in equal installments without interest, with the soums amounting to one basic minimum wage - 340 thousand soums ($26.85).
The allocated land includes various types suitable for agricultural activities, such as irrigated fields for crop cultivation, land plots for horticulture and viticulture, and areas for livestock feed production. The distribution of land will be based on the preferences and needs of local communities.
Participants in the program will retain existing privileges and preferences, including access to financial support such as loans of up to UZS 100 mn ($7,897) for 7 years. Guarantees for these loans will be provided by the "makhalla seven."
Subsidies and loans will also be available for the purchase of essential resources such as mini-equipment, seeds, and seedlings. Additionally, the establishment of 167 "Agrocenters" will facilitate access to agronomic services, equipment, and inputs.
