Uzbekistan's FC Bunyodkor director addresses €9.2 mn debt to Brazilian players
Murad Aliyev, the director of Bunyodkor football club, recently addressed journalists regarding the club's outstanding debt to Brazilian players Rivaldo and Denilson, who were part of the team in the late 2010s, Championat.Asia reported on February 27. The disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) had mandated Bunyodkor to pay the players approximately €9.2 mn.
Aliyev emphasized that the repayment of the debt falls under the purview of the club’s management, specifically Uzbekneftegaz, the state-owned enterprise. He elaborated on ongoing efforts by legal representatives to negotiate a reduction in the payment owed to the Brazilian footballers.
"Then the contract was signed not with Bunyodkor, but with the Zeromax company... But there was an additional agreement with Bunyodkor, Rivaldo’s lawyers are holding on to this point," Aliyev explained.
Aliyev denied assertions that Bunyodkor's legal team had missed the deadline for appealing FIFA's decision. He affirmed the club's commitment to resolving the issue diligently.
Background
The genesis of the issue traces back to the establishment of Bunyodkor, formerly known as Kuruvchi club, by Neftegazmontazh, a company under the Zeromax conglomerate, which declared bankruptcy in 2010.
Rivaldo's involvement with Bunyodkor commenced with a one-year contract, followed by an extension for two more years. However, payment discrepancies arose, leading to legal action. The footballer, estimating his losses at €16 mn, is seeking compensation for the unpaid dues.
