On February 19, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals designed to stimulate regional economic growth and support underutilized enterprises. The President’s Press Service reported that UZS 1.5 trillion ($121.4 mn) from this year’s budget have been allocated to enhance infrastructure facilities in industrial zones. This move is expected to increase the appeal of these zones, broaden enterprise activities, and create more jobs.
In the Karshi district of the Kashkadarya region, a 600-hectare land area will be developed by adding extra pumps and canals to the Mirishkor canal. This development will enable the cultivation of shamrock and the production of oil from it, employing approximately 1,400 individuals.
Consideration is being given to the installation of solar panels on wastelands near industrial enterprises. This initiative aims to supply additional energy to these enterprises and alleviate the load on the system.
Tax and customs privileges, established by presidential decrees and decisions, have positively influenced enterprise activities. For instance, customs privileges for the import of textile dyes have resulted in a cost reduction for knitted fabric, shirts, suits, and trousers. The presentation underscored the advisability of extending these privileges to solidify the achieved results. The head of state approved these proposals and directed the improvement of the relevant regulations.
Officials have been tasked with identifying “points of growth” in all 208 districts and cities and developing projects aimed at increasing the population’s income.
