The Group of Seven (G7) countries have pledged to assist Ukraine in seeking compensation from Russia for the damages incurred, with plans to maintain the freeze on Russian assets in their jurisdictions until Moscow fulfills its obligations. The announcement was made by the foreign ministers of the G7 states during the Munich Security Conference held February 17, DW reported.
In a joint statement, the G7 members affirmed their commitment to exploring all avenues available under their legal systems and international law to facilitate Ukraine's quest for compensation from the Russian Federation.
Following Russia's military intervention in Ukraine, Brussels implemented multiple rounds of sanctions targeting Moscow. As a result, the assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation worth over €200 bn were seized within the EU.
The G7, comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, represents an informal coalition of seven of the globe's most developed economies.
