President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a visit to the Andijan industrial hub in the Andijan region, has initiated the implementation of a $100mn electric bus assembly project, naming them vehicles "Silk Road Buses," the president's press service reports.
Partnership with Chinese Company
The project, set to be launched in collaboration with the Chinese company Lanzhou Guangtong New Energy Automobile, was formalized through a memorandum signed by the mayor of the Andijan region, Shukhrat Abdurakhmanov, with an investment of $100mn in early January.
Project Details
The electric bus assembly plant is anticipated to have a design capacity of producing 2,000 electric buses annually, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly public transportation solutions. The Chinese counterpart expressed interest in exporting buses to Europe from Andijan and sought President Mirziyoyev's input in naming the project and the electric buses.
President's Vision
President Mirziyoyev responded by naming the project "Ipak Yo'li Avtobuslari" ("Silk Road Buses"), emphasizing its significance in connecting Uzbekistan to its historical roots and promoting economic cooperation along the ancient Silk Road routes. He also hinted at incorporating this project into a documentary movie highlighting Uzbekistan's rich history and modern achievements, agreed upon with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In addition to electric buses, the $100mn project will also encompass the production of electric scooters, further diversifying the range of eco-friendly transportation options available in Uzbekistan.
Earlier, it was reported that this production of electric buses in the Andijan region stems from a cooperative agreement forged during the official visit of the regional governor, Shuhrat Abdurahmanov, to China.
