Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, recently met with Armenia's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Armen Ghevondyan, Ministry of Culture and Information reported. The discussions centered on fostering mutual cultural enrichment and implementing joint projects between the two nations.
Highlighting the significance of their ongoing collaboration, both parties acknowledged the strides made within the framework of the cooperation program signed last year. This program, spanning from 2023 to 2025, is a testament to the commitment of both countries to bolster their cultural partnership and initiate innovative cultural endeavors.
Minister Balayeva underscored the pivotal role of the Ministry of Culture in regulating various aspects of Kazakhstan's cultural landscape, including information dissemination, archival affairs, and the development of creative industries. She emphasized President Kazakhstan's vision outlined in the Message "Economic Course of a Fair Kazakhstan," which prioritizes the development of the creative industry sector as a catalyst for economic and employment growth.
Armen Ghevondyan, the Armenian Ambassador, echoed Kazakhstan's sentiments, expressing keen interest in organizing cross-cultural events such as Culture Days. He highlighted the success of previous collaborative efforts, such as the inauguration of a corner dedicated to the renowned composer Aram Khachaturian. The ambassador extended a request for further support in establishing a corner dedicated to Armenian culture, showcasing the rich heritage of his country.
“We, like you, are interested in the mutual enrichment of cultures, in particular in organizing cultural and humanitarian projects. One of them has already been implemented: a corner dedicated to the 120th anniversary of one of the most prominent composers of the 20th century, who won wide recognition from millions of music lovers around the world, Aram Khachaturian, has been opened,” the Ambassador noted.
The diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Armenia, established in 1992, have strengthened over the years, with significant bilateral cooperation in various sectors. The Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two nations has played a crucial role in facilitating economic exchanges, with the latest session held in Yerevan in April 2023.
Trade relations between Kazakhstan and Armenia have flourished, with a total turnover of $82.7mn recorded in 2023 (January-October). Kazakhstan primarily exports plastics, rubber products, and footwear, among others, while importing raw materials and food products from Armenia.
