Uzbekistan took center stage at the International Forum "Lithium Days 2023" held in Halle, Germany, showcasing its mining industry and geological potential in a dedicated event. The country participated as the partner country for the forum, demonstrating its commitment to fostering international collaboration in the field of lithium production, National Information Agency of Uzbekistan reported.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Berlin, the German Lithium Institute, and Papenburg, the event attracted companies specializing in lithium production, international experts, business representatives, investors, and scientists from research institutes.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Germany highlighted the significance of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's consistent reforms, emphasizing the pivotal role they play in developing the country's mineral resources and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors. The collaborative efforts between the two nations were evident in the presentations and discussions during the forum.
Eduard Kinsbruner, the Director for Central Asia of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, delivered a presentation aimed at familiarizing German investors and the business community with the economic potential of Uzbekistan and areas of cooperation. The forum served as a platform for initial talks between geology experts from both countries, resulting in agreements on the implementation of projects in the field of geology.
Germany and Uzbekistan Relations
Bilateral relations between Germany and Uzbekistan, established in 1992, have steadily grown over the years. Regular consultation formats focusing on political, economic, and cultural cooperation have been in place, with the relationship further deepened by reciprocal visits from the heads of state in 2019. Notably, an innovation partnership was established, and Germany has actively supported Uzbekistan's economic liberalization through consultancy services and development cooperation.
In May 2023, the Foreign Ministers of Germany and Uzbekistan signed a comprehensive joint declaration of intent to deepen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. Germany has become an increasingly important trading partner for Uzbekistan, ranking sixth among its trading partners midway through 2023. Bilateral trade has seen dynamic growth, reaching approximately €1.3bn in 2022, with major German investors such as MAN, Knauf, Siemens, Trützschler, and Claas contributing to this partnership.
