Uzpromstroybank, a leading financial institution in Uzbekistan, has been awarded an international certificate in climate financing, recognizing its significant contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This prestigious recognition was announced by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which named Uzpromstroybank as the top bank in the Middle East and Turkey for climate financing in 2023.
The bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in its strategic approach to transitioning to a ‘green’ economy. Drawing on international best practices in eco-innovation and green investment, Uzpromstroybank has developed a range of green financial products for corporate, wholesale, and small to medium-sized businesses.
In 2023 alone, the bank financed projects worth $137 mn through the IFC’s Climate Assessment for Financial Institutions (CAFI) platform, resulting in a reduction of 45,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This achievement underscores Uzpromstroybank’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its role in promoting sustainable practices in Uzbekistan’s financial sector.
Uzpromstroybank is actively implementing principles of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) in collaboration with the IFC, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Development Bank. This demonstrates the bank’s heightened responsibility towards ensuring environmental sustainability and protection in Uzbekistan.
