US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his view of Chinese President Xi Jinping as a dictator, following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders in San Francisco. Biden stated:
Look at me, it’s true after all, he is a dictator. He is a person running a communist country whose government is completely different from ours. It is impossible to deny or argue about this.
The US President also mentioned that he has ‘dissuaded’ the Chinese leader from interfering in the US presidential election, and has repeatedly described Xi Jinping’s leadership style as ‘typical of dictators’. The Chinese side has yet to respond to Biden’s comments.
The bilateral talks, which lasted approximately two hours, saw Xi Jinping warning of the far-reaching consequences of a potential conflict between China and the United States. He emphasized that both Beijing and Washington should do everything possible to avoid direct military confrontation, and expressed optimism about the ‘bright future’ of Sino-American relations.
