The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkey reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership during a meeting held in Tashkent today. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey engaged in discussions centered on expanding cooperation and building upon their comprehensive strategic partnership.
The high-level talks took place as President Erdogan visited Uzbekistan to participate in the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, a regional initiative aimed at fostering economic and trade ties among its member states.
Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing growth in bilateral relations between the two countries. Notably, trade volumes have seen an upward trajectory, the number of direct flights has increased, and the influx of tourists between Uzbekistan and Turkey continues to rise.
Furthermore, significant investment projects have been initiated in Uzbekistan with the active involvement of leading Turkish companies. In 2023 alone, more than $500mn of direct investments from Turkish firms have been attracted, leading to the establishment of over 200 new enterprises in the country.
During the meeting, the leaders underscored the importance of accelerating collaborative initiatives in various sectors, such as trade, industry, innovation, energy, transport, education, culture, and tourism. This emphasis on diversifying cooperation highlights the mutual commitment to exploring the full range of opportunities within their strategic partnership.
The discussion also included the planning of future events, with both sides expressing eagerness to prepare for the upcoming meeting of the Uzbekistan-Turkey Strategic Cooperation Council. This council serves as a key platform for discussing and advancing bilateral ties, and its next meeting is expected to yield additional agreements and collaborative projects.
In addition to bilateral matters, President Mirziyoyev and President Erdogan exchanged views on regional issues of significance. The leaders emphasized the importance of regional stability and cooperation, affirming their countries' commitment to addressing pressing regional challenges.
