Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Maria Schmid, posted on social network X that a Forum with the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries was held in Ashgabat. "We had substantial discussions about the OSCE’s work on border management, transport & connectivity, and combatting climate change."
Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reports the meeting, attended by the OSCE Secretary General, exchanged views on the most important topics of regional security, sustainable development and stability.
The information quotes Schmid as saying that "this forum is aimed at expanding and strengthening interaction in solving pressing problems in the region in each of the above dimensions".
Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov emphasised that reliable border security is the basis for maintaining peace and prosperity in the region.
Environmental safety remains a priority area of international co-operation. The Turkmen side was proposed to hold the OSCE Forum on Climate Change Technologies.
The information refers to the initiative of the OSCE Secretary General to hold regular meetings with environment ministers of Central Asian countries. Ashgabat is ready to host the next meeting of this format in 2024.
