The Investigative Committee (IC) of Moscow has initiated 22 criminal cases regarding the evasion of military service by individuals hailing from Central Asia who have acquired Russian citizenship.
More than 80 individuals have been directed to fulfill their military service obligations within the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces, as reported in the IC's Telegram channel.
The IC underlined its collaboration with the Moscow draft boards in scrutinizing the personal records of conscripts with the aim of identifying those who are evading their military service duties. Within the scope of this effort, the agency asserts that they are verifying the legality of citizenship acquisition by those avoiding military service.
The IC has issued a warning that, in accordance with the law, Russian citizenship can be revoked if a person "evades military service and alternative civilian service."
Previously, Alexander Bastrykin, the Head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, suggested revoking Russian citizenship from migrants who refuse to participate in the conflict in Ukraine. Since August, Russia has been actively conducting operations targeting "new" citizens, summoning them to draft offices for further processing.
