Kyrgyzstan launches comprehensive ARVI defense: mass influenza vaccination drive and prevention measures roll out

Kyrgyzstan launches comprehensive ARVI defense: mass influenza vaccination drive and prevention measures roll out

In response to a surge in Acute Respiratory Viral Infections (ARVI) cases, the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary Surveillance has taken proactive measures to combat the spread of the virus in the Kyrgyz Republic. Among these measures, the department has purchased 90,666 doses of influenza vaccine through a competitive tender process.

The acquired vaccine, known as Grippol+, is now being distributed and shipped to all regions across the country. This move is part of a broader strategy to protect the population, particularly those most vulnerable to respiratory illnesses.

Vaccination against influenza is available free of charge to residents, with priority given to individuals belonging to high-risk groups. These groups include:

    1. Medical Workers: Healthcare professionals on the frontlines of patient care will be among the first to receive the vaccine, ensuring their safety and the continued functioning of the healthcare system.
    2. Persons with Chronic Diseases: Individuals with underlying health conditions that may exacerbate the effects of influenza will also receive priority access to the vaccine.
    3. Sickly Children: Children with pre-existing health concerns or conditions that make them more susceptible to respiratory infections are a key focus of the vaccination campaign.
    4. Persons Over 65: The elderly, who are at a higher risk of severe complications from both the flu and ARVI, will receive vaccinations to safeguard their health.
    5. Pregnant Women: Expectant mothers, a group known to be vulnerable to respiratory illnesses, will be provided with the opportunity to protect both themselves and their unborn children.

In addition to the vaccination campaign, health officials are emphasizing the importance of non-specific prevention measures. These include:

    • Mask-Wearing and Social Distancing: Encouraging the use of masks and maintaining physical distance to reduce the risk of viral transmission.
    • Respiratory Hygiene: Promoting proper cough and sneeze etiquette by covering the mouth and nose with tissues or the elbow to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets.
    • Temperature Management: Advising individuals to avoid extreme temperatures that can stress the body, leading to increased susceptibility to infections.
    • Self-Isolation: Urging individuals who feel unwell, experience high fever, or display flu-like symptoms to isolate themselves promptly and seek medical attention.
    • Sanitary and Hygienic Measures: Stressing the importance of regular handwashing, good ventilation in indoor spaces, and maintaining cleanliness through wet cleaning procedures.

Furthermore, parents are advised that if their child displays symptoms of ARVI, it is recommended not to send them to school or kindergarten until they have fully recovered, and professional medical advice has been sought.

As part of the broader prevention strategy, citizens are encouraged to establish and maintain a balanced routine, including adequate rest, spending time outdoors, getting enough sleep, maintaining a nutritious diet, incorporating physical activity such as morning exercises, and practicing overall well-being.

The Kyrgyz Republic's proactive approach to combating ARVI aligns with global efforts to protect public health and reduce the impact of respiratory infections, especially in the face of increasing cases. Vaccination, combined with preventative measures and responsible behavior, serves as a vital shield against the spread of these illnesses in the community.
