In southern Lebanon, Israel has accused Iran of building a military airstrip, allegedly with the purpose of launching attacks on Israeli soil.
According to Euronews, Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, disclosed that these runways are being constructed in a mountainous, wooded area just 20 kilometers away from the Israeli border.
To support these allegations, the head of the Israeli agency presented several satellite images during a security conference hosted by Reichman University. These images, it is claimed, were captured at the location of the airstrip, situated between the Lebanese town of Jezzine and the Israeli town of Metula.
In 2006, active combat operations took place between the Shiite group, which controls a substantial portion of Lebanon, and Israel.
In these photographs, installations are visible, presumably displaying the Iranian national flag and the flag of the Lebanese group "Hezbollah." The latter has refrained from commenting on the accusations.
Galant issued a stern warning, stating, "If Lebanon and Hezbollah lead us into a war or conflict, they will face severe consequences," underlining that Tehran represents the "most significant threat" to the Jewish state.
Earlier in late July, the Associated Press obtained satellite images from Planet Labs Inc., revealing construction activities on a 1.2-kilometer-long runway accompanied by four hangars.
Israel has periodically reported intercepting drones launched from Lebanese territory, frequently attributing these incidents to Iran and Hezbollah.
