The arrivals on September 2 brought the year-to-date total of migrants reaching the UK via the Channel to 21,000, a figure that, while significant, represents a slowdown compared to the more than 45,000 arrivals recorded in the previous year, according to data provided by the British government.
The summer season remains the preferred period for these treacherous crossings, with August setting a monthly record of over 5,300 arrivals on approximately a hundred small boats.
