A new complex of buildings and facilities of the State Border Guard Service of Turkmenistan has been opened on the Caspian coast, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The total length of Turkmenistan's maritime border is about 600km. The Caspian Sea also washes the shores of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran.
"Under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in accordance with the Military Doctrine, based on the permanently neutral status of the Fatherland and of a purely defensive nature, work is being carried out to strengthen the defence capability of the national army."
The report also says that with the help of the latest technologies, digital system, electronic map it is possible to track passenger and military vessels in the Caspian Sea. Maritime border guards have a high-speed hovercraft at their disposal.
A naval base on the Caspian Sea was established by Turkmenistan by 2015. Official Ashgabat regularly conducts military exercises "Khazar" (Caspian) in the sea area.
In recent years, regional transport projects involving Turkmenistan have intensified in the Caspian Sea. Modernised large-capacity vessels of the national merchant fleet are actively involved in maritime cargo transportation.
