On August 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presided over a presentation that highlighted the ongoing development projects in the fields of transport, energy, and industry in the city of Tashkent, press service of the President reported.
Transport infrastructure
The President highlighted the significance of an extensive and efficient transport infrastructure as a key driver for national development. In recent years, substantial advancements have been made in road, aviation, rail transport, and the metro system. One of the mentions is the ongoing renovation of the Tashkent-Vostochny airport, which has been progressing according to the President's directives. The airport's layout has been optimized to reduce maintenance costs while retaining its essential functionalities.
The airport project boasts a 4-kilometer runway and will feature two terminals catering to high-level guests and business aviation. With parking for 25 aircraft, hangars, and state-of-the-art radio engineering and meteorological systems compliant with ICAO standards, the airport will ensure reliable operations even in adverse weather conditions.
Enhancing public transport and easing traffic congestion
With Tashkent's burgeoning population and increasing private vehicle ownership leading to traffic congestion, the President has directed efforts toward developing an attractive and efficient public transport system. New buses and electric buses have been introduced, significantly reducing waiting times and enhancing passenger transportation. To further alleviate traffic congestion, plans are in place to construct car parks near vital metro stations, encouraging commuters to opt for public transport and improve overall traffic flow within the city.
Energy sector and fostering sustainability
In the realm of energy, the President acknowledged the importance of enhancing the country's energy systems' resilience in emergency situations. Emphasis has been placed on integrating renewable energy sources to diversify the energy mix and ensure sustainability. An impressive portfolio of 33 alternative energy projects with a cumulative capacity of 13,777 megawatts has been developed. Simultaneously, measures are underway to enhance power supply infrastructure, bolstering its resistance to adverse weather conditions and introducing mechanisms for intelligent energy consumption management.
Economic growth
The President highlighted the thriving industrial sector in Tashkent, contributing over 34% to the capital's economy. The food, metallurgical, and textile industries have demonstrated remarkable growth rates, showcasing the region's industrial prowess. In a strategic move to expand production capabilities and foster economic growth, the Yangikhayot industrial technopark is slated for transformation into a cluster system. This initiative, encompassing an expansive 500-hectare area, aims to accommodate 810 enterprises, generating 100,000 job opportunities.
