Brussels may recommend granting Georgia candidate status for membership this fall, provided that Tbilisi meets all EU requirements, media reports.
Peter Stano, the official representative of the EU Foreign Policy Service, explained that the European Commission will assess Georgia's progress towards fulfilling the 12 priorities proposed by the EU and make a recommendation accordingly.
Georgia applied for EU membership in March 2022. The country still needs to meet all EU requirements to move forward.
Georgian Parliament Chairman Shalva Papuashvili demanded that the EU grant candidate status by the end of 2023, but as of June, the country had only implemented three of the 12 recommendations.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that Georgia has already implemented 11 recommendations.
