Members of the Spanish environmental movement Futuro Vegetal staged a protest by attaching themselves to a private plane on the island of Ibiza. The organization announced the incident on Twitter.
"Early this morning, three members of [the organization] entered the runway of Ibiza airport, sprayed the private plane with fire extinguisher paint, and attached themselves to it," said a representative from Futuro Vegetal.
As a result, the operations at Ibiza airport were temporarily disrupted for several hours, and the protesters were detained.
Through their action, the activists aimed to draw attention to the issue of wealth disparity, highlighting how the uncontrolled consumption within the luxury industry contributes to environmental pollution.
"The rich are a luxury we cannot afford," argued representatives of Futuro Vegetal.
According to the eco-activists, the authorities should already be "acting as if the temperature increase limit set by the Paris Agreement has been exceeded." They added that no political party in Spain has taken decisive measures to address the climate crisis.
Earlier, members of the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion protested by targeting golf courses in Spain, calling for the cancellation of this elitist pastime due to the excessive water consumption required to maintain the golf courses in good condition, estimated at over 100,000 liters per day.
