On the 30th anniversary of the founding of the International Organisation of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), Turkmenistan will host the Week of Turkic Culture from 24 to 29 June. The "Turkmenistan" TV channel reports that Deputy Prime Minister Myahridzhemal Mammedova announced this at a government meeting.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy is the promotion of cultural diplomacy.
"Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of multifaceted cooperation with reputable organizations. TURKSOY is among them".
TURKSOY was founded in 1993 as a result of an agreement between the Ministers of Culture of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Turkey.
Later, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the regions of the Russian Federation - Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Altai, Sakha (Yakutia), Tuva, Khakassia and Gagauzia within Moldova - joined as observer states.
