On May 16, law enforcement officials conducted a raid on Mingterak Street in Kokand and found a poppy plantation belonging to one of the residents.
The person in question is dealing with legal consequences as law enforcement discovered 368 poppy bushes mixed in with other flowers. The offense is punishable under Article 270, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code for cultivating illegal crops, carrying a potential prison sentence of up to three years.
Reportedly, the Papaver somniferum L. species is considered illegal because it contains narcotic substances.
