Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, has demanded that Poland relinquish a portion of its territory and compensate the "Soviet people" with $750bn for their investment in Poland's development.
He made these statements on his Telegram channel, accusing Poland of betraying historical memory and asserting that Poland owes its existence solely to Russia.
Volodin highlighted that after World War II, one-third of present-day Poland, including developed infrastructure, industrial enterprises, and resource-rich areas, became part of the country thanks to the Soviet Union. He emphasized that the Soviet people spent over $750bn to restore and develop Poland, constructing more than 800 industrial, energy, and transportation facilities.
According to Volodin, Poland is obligated to return the territories acquired after the war and provide compensation for the funds expended by Russia during the war and subsequent years. Additionally, Volodin announced that the State Duma would discuss the possibility of banning Polish trucks from transiting through Russia on Monday, May 22.
He estimated that such a move would cost Poland approximately €8.5bn, impacting around 2,000 Polish transport companies.
