The farmers of the Makhambet district, Atyrau region (Kazakhstan), want to use 600 quotas from a total of 800 to employ Uzbek workers in the agricultural sector, 24.kz reports.
For many years citizens of Uzbekistan have come to work in the oil-rich region which began this year at the end of March. This farm is planning to sow 200 hectares.
Sandugash Maratkyzy, farm worker: “We have been going to work in Atyrau for 8 years. Now we are 50 people. There are no problems with the registration of migration documents.”
The vegetables here are grown first in greenhouses and then planted in the fields. This is a rather labour-intensive process. The farmers noted that workers from Uzbekistan had a good experience in this matter.
There are more than 120 households in the Makhambet district. They traditionally attract foreigners to the spring fieldwork.
Azat Kapanov, Ch. specialist of the district department of entrepreneurship and agriculture said that 300 people had already arrived and started working. Another 300 were in the process of obtaining a work permit.
Local authorities and farmers are doing everything possible to attract people to the agricultural sector. This year, wages in this industry have been increased and workers could earn up to $300 with full board.
Despite this, unemployed villagers are not eager to work in the field, experts say.
