The Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency conducted preliminary investigations to clarify the situation on the reports about a harmful virus being found in tomatoes that were exported from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan. It was revealed that the Kazakh side did not reject the imported tomato products due to the presence of the tomato brown virus or any other quarantine diseases from Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
Meanwhile, negotiations were quickly initiated with the quarantine services of both countries, and the head of the phytosanitary service of the Turkestan region confirmed that no dangerous virus was found in the imported tomato products.
The Ministry takes measures to ensure that each batch of agricultural products is tested and examined at the Central Phytosanitary Laboratory to release safe and disease-free products to the global market.
Samples are thoroughly tested using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, which takes up to 8 hours, including testing for the detection of tomato brown virus. The goal is to uphold the reputation of the Uzbekistan brand in the international agricultural sector.
