"Rostelecom" company has started negotiations with Alisher Usmanov's USM Group on the purchase of Russia’s largest mobile communications operator. The deal can turn the state-owned company into an undisputed leader in the Russian mobile communications market. "Kommersant" reports about it.
According to a source close to USM, MegaFon has been producing good results in recent years:
MegaFon is one of the largest telecommunications operators in Russia, serving more than 74 million mobile subscribers and is 100% owned by USM Group.
"The deal on the sale of MegaFon may be a continuation of the redistribution of key technological assets in favour of the state," Leonid Delitsyn from FG Finam explains.
Experts value MegaFon at 8.8 billion dollars.
"Megafon is an asset with consistently strong financial performance and a growing subscriber base. Its shareholders have never reduced capital expenditures, so the operator is in a good position in terms of technology saturation and communication quality," Sergey Suverov, an investment officer of Arikapital Management noted.
Currently, "Rostelecom" owns 100 per cent shares of the Tele2 mobile communications operator.
"After MTS, the acquisition of the second largest operator on the market (MegaFon editorship) will make the country the undisputed leader in the mobile communications segment," Delitsyn says.
