On December 14, the UN General Assembly unanimously approved the resolution "On strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", the press service of the President reports.
The proposal to adopt this resolution was put forward by President Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in 2020.
The resolution notes the important role of parliaments in strengthening solidarity, solidarity and commitment to comprehensive cooperation to support a comprehensive, sustainable and coherent post-COVID-19 recovery, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The General Assembly calls on States to support parliaments, engage them in future activities to achieve the MDGs and follow-up processes, especially in the preparation of voluntary national reports, and ensure and strengthen national ownership and accountability.
UN structures and other international organizations welcomed the resolution noting that the resolution will be a unique program for the parliaments.
80 countries in all continents of the world, including Central Asian countries, Austria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belgium, Germany, Algeria, Spain, Indonesia, Italy, Colombia, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Egypt, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Finland, France, PRC, Sweden, Japan, Qatar and others became co-authors of the document.
