Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov has announced that a direct air flight between Pakistan and Uzbekistan will be launched soon, media reports.

First of all, the flight will be launched from the historic city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan to Lahore, the Minister told Dawn news agency. According to the head of the governmental department, afterward, direct flights to Karachi and Islamabad will be started from other cities of Uzbekistan, including Tashkent and Khiva. The Minister said the direct air link would increase both bilateral economic and trade activities and tourism.

In December 2021, representatives of the Pakistani airline Pakistan International Airlines held negotiations with the Ministry of Transport on the launch of regular flights. Then it was envisaged to launch the flights in January 2022 along the Islamabad – Tashkent and Karachi – Tashkent routes.
